On August 25, 2005, the URNet WAN, state of the art optical technology was implemented and service initiated for the I2 research internet.
On August 30, the Eastman School of Music backbone was connected to the URNet WAN optical network.
On September 8, the "commodity" internet (as opposed to the research internet) was transitioned to URNet WAN optical network.
