Administrators can assign authorization codes to regular department accounts, sponsored activity, or individual research efforts; streamlining expense reporting. Call detail is included on each month's statement for audit and control. |

Cabling. Our trained technicians install and move twisted pair copper wires and fiber optic cable to support telephone handsets, analog lines for fax machines and modems, and special purpose communication cabling. |

Call Grouping and Routing services can provide you or your organization with statistics on how responsive your organization is to its customers. You can manage how calls come into your organization's main number, provide specialized greetings, and design routing to groups or individuals based on time of day and customer need. Cellular Telephones are available for all university faculty, staff, students, and eligible affiliates. Discounted rate and equipment plans are available from multiple corporate cellular service providers. Discounted personal plans are available for students and University employees.

Conference Calls . We have multiple solutions for conference call needs. All university telephones have conference calling capability for up to 8 conference participants. In addition, we provide feature-rich, “meet me” conferencing for formal conference needs. Two-way conference sets are available for short term use. |

Special Lines. We can help you through the maze of technical terms and communication requirements when you are designing or changing your business environment. Examples include consultation, design, and installation of ISDN, T1, T3, E1, serial, coaxial, optical and other types of communication requirements. |

Special Phones. These include rugged telephones for public areas subject to vandalism, conference sets for large meeting groups, TTY equipment, medical patient phones, wireless telephony solutions, hands-free headsets and many others. Please ask!

Telephones. When installing a new telephone or moving an existing one, a new wire and/or wall jack may be required. By initiating a service request that includes department, location and extension(s) information our team can respond to your request(s) and recommend solutions for your department. When defining requirements and designing solutions we may recommend additional services or applications that will help you better manage your communications environment; we can advise on cost and availability for any of our services. Traditional telephones are available in 8 button display and non-display sets, 16 button display and 32 button display configurations. Optional add-on modules are available for the 32 button set. Wireless telephones and headsets are available in several configurations depending on environment and specific need. Any digital or wireless telephone set is capable of multiple lines. Telephone Directory. ITS provides online and hard copy directories for faculty and staff and for students. We also coordinate white & yellow page advertising in the Frontier Pages for Rochester , New York . To access the online directory visit www.rochester.edu/directory .

Troubleshooting. Network engineers have tools and the know-how to examine network traffic and diagnose root cause of network problems whether they are localized or pervasive. A call or email to ITS initiates a service request through our Operations Center ; we will start the troubleshooting process immediately.

Voice Mail. ITS provides a personalized voicemail message service for added convenience in managing your telephone messages. Mailboxes are available to meet a variety of needs and can be configured to provide various message units and various message lengths. Communications designers can consult on and implement call trees that route callers to the appropriate destinations and provide additional information as required. Individual and group mailboxes can be designed for various business applications and environments; mailboxes that require voice response are also available. Wide Area Networks. We consult on, design, negotiate, implement, and maintain wide area services by coordinating with telecommunications partners. In addition, we provision cabling and networking electronics to connect remote offices to the campus and abroad. For larger organizational groups, we may also tap into one of our newest resources, the URNet wide-area optical network, our 63 mile optical fiber network ( see a PDF of this network diagram ).
