Help Desk Alert

Call Restriction on new versus old phones.

On the new phones, the RSC or Restriction Service Class dictates what numbers a user can dial from their phone. The RSC codes are as follows:

  1. International calling
  2. Long distance calling 24 hours a day
  3. Long distance calling between 8am and 5pm
  4. 9 county calling
  5. Local and toll free calling only
  6. Internal calling only

With the old system, calling restrictions were based on the RSC of the phone number used to place a call.

With the new system, calling restrictions are based on the RSC of the MY-LINE.

So with an RSC of 5 on the MY-LINE, and a virtual with an RSC of 1, a user will never be able to make an international call. The user will be bound to local and toll free calling only. And likewise if a user has a MY-LINE with an RSC of 1, and a virtual with an RSC of 6, no matter which line is used, the user will be able to make international calls. If a user is experiencing difficulties in placing calls, and the RSC of the line being used is correct, it may be necessary to determine the RSC of the MY-LINE to determine the problem.
