What is Virtual Private Network (VPN)?
VPN is used to access University restricted resources from off campus using a secured connection over the Internet.
VPN connections are generally established for one
of the following purposes:
Accessing restricted library resources
Some portions of the University library are restricted to faculty, staff, and students. In order for you to access these restricted areas from off campus,
you need to use VPN. See the library cross reference of patron categories with respect to VPN accounts for more information.
Remote "POP-over-SSL" email access
** In light of recent computer security threats, it has become necessary
to increase the security of your connection to the mail system. As a
result, "regular" POP access to email was turned off effective June
1, 2005. If you use Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, Mac Mail, or
Entourage to read your email and have your program configured to access
your account using POP, your email can be set to a higher level of
security by enabling SSL. SSL will greatly enhance privacy by protecting
your connection to the email server.
