Setup Tutorial for Macintosh using a LAN (RoadRunner, etc.)
Checklist
Before you begin, make sure that all of the following are true:
- You meet the minimum system requirements.
- You have recieved your account information from UTD.
- You are subscribed to the RoadRunner service (or another LAN-based ISP), and the required hardware and software has been installed.
- You can connect to the internet.
Installation
- Open the "Install TunnelBuilder Intl" application on the TunnelBuilder CD-ROM.
- When you reach the "Easy Install" screen, click Install. After you follow the onscreen prompts, your Macintosh will restart.
Configuration
- Open the "LAN TunnelBuilder Settings" application on your hard drive. (the window should open when your computer finishes starting up.)
- Enter the following information in the window that appears:

- Close the LAN TunnelBuilder window.
- Open the TCP/IP control panel. (Control Panels are usually accessible through the Apple menu.)
- Select Configurations... from the File menu.
- Make a note of the configuration that is currently selected. This is your existing configuration.
- Click Duplicate, and name the duplicate "LAN VPN".
- Click Make Active.
- Now, enter the following information:

- Close the TCP/IP window.
Connecting via VPN over RoadRunner
- Make sure that the "LAN VPN" configuration is selected in the TCP/IP control panel. If you know that it already is, you can skip this step.
- Open the TCP/IP control panel.
- Select Configurations... from the File menu.
- Select "LAN VPN" from this list, and click Make Active.
- Close the TCP/IP control panel, confirming your changes.
- Open the "LAN TunnelBuilder Settings" application.
- Click the Connect button.
After a short delay, the Connect button will change to read Disconnect, and a message will appear informing you that you are connected to the network.
- Use internet applications, like Internet Explorer or Eudora, to access University resources.
- When you are finished, click the Disconnect button in the "LAN TunnelBuilder Settings" application.
Connecting via RoadRunner only
If you do not need to access University resources in this session, you can gain speed by swithcing back to your original configuration.
- Make sure that your original configuration is selected in the TCP/IP control panel. If you know that it already is, you can skip this step.
- Open the TCP/IP control panel.
- Select Configurations... from the File menu.
- Select your original configuration from this list, and click Make Active.
- Close the TCP/IP control panel, confirming your changes.
- At this point, you will be connected automatically to RoadRunner.
- Use internet applications, like Internet Explorer or Eudora, to access non-University internet resources.
