VPN - Installation and Setup Guide

Cisco VPN Client: Macintosh OS X

This program will work on following Macintosh Operating Systems:
• OS 10.1.x is no longer supported - please upgrade your Operating System
• OS 10.2.8 - 10.3.9 Cisco Client version 4.7.00(15)
• OS 10.4.x - 10.5 including Mac Intel computers: Cisco Client version 4.9.01.0080

Step 1: Download the appropriate client, from the links above, to your desktop and unzip it. You will see the following list of files:

Double click on "Cisco VPN Client.mpkg" to start the install. At the "Welcome to..." screen click Continue.

 

Step 2: At the "Software License Agreement" window, click "Continue". It will then want you to confirm the agreement, just click on "Agree".

 

Step 3:Click on the Hard Drive that you want to install the VPN client onto (the green arrow means it has been selected) and then click "Continue"

Step 4: At the "Easy Install" screen just click "Install". It will then prompt you to enter your username and password that you use to login to your computer. When the installation finishes click the "Restart" button. This will restart your computer.

 

Step 5: After rebooting go to your "Application" folder. Double click on the icon called "VPNClient". When the application opens you will get the following screen. Click the "New" icon.

 

Step 6: You will then be prompted to fill out a form to create a new VPN connection entry. The needed information follows the picture.

Input the following information:

Connection Entry: UR-VPN

Host: vpn.net.rochester.edu

In Group Authentication:

Name: ipsecgroup

Password: group123

Confirm Password: group123

When done click the Save button.

Step 7: This will bring you back to the Main Screen which should look like the following: Click the "Connect" icon.

Step 8: After clicking Connect a box should appear asking for a username and password like the one below. Enter your NetID and NetID password. Then click OK.

Step 9: If a successful connection is made you will see the screen below. Then just click Continue. You can then start accessing University restricted resources.

Step 10: When you want to disconnect go to your main VPN client screen and you will see that the Connect button has turned into a Disconnect button. Just click the button to disconnect.
