Information Technology Services (ITS) is encouraging faculty and
staff who maintain Web sites on the University's main server ( www.rochester.edu
) and associated virtual servers ( e.g. www.sa.rochester.edu ) to attend
briefing sessions about the dual-server system on implemented on March
8. The introduction of the second server, managed by ITS, is
designed to provide improved security, failsafe technology, and increased
speed. It will also create a private development environment for information
providers to test their Web pages before making them "live."
Using the new development server, information providers will be able to
preview their work as it will appear on the Internet without actually
having it "linked" to www.rochester.edu
. In order to move sites from the development server to production, providers
will need to use a utility program called "Deploy."
To help facilitate your migration to the new server, ITS has
scheduled briefing sessions over the next month.
Locations
There are two locations for these briefing. Attendance is restricted
as noted.
