Installing a Wireless Card in Windows 2000

Follow these steps to install the wireless drivers:

  1. Insert the wireless card into the computer as described in the user manual that came with your computer.

  2. Windows 2000 should detect the card and begin the hardware installation. A message will appear on the taskbar that Windows 2000 has found new hardware and will install the drivers for your card.

  3. Click Start, Settings, Network and Dial-up Connections, Local Area Connection X, where X is the largest number present. (If there are Local Area Connection 1, Local Area Connection 2 and Local Area Connection 3, choose connection 3. These connections are numbered in the order they were added to the system, so the highest number should be the one we just added.)

  4. On this window, click the Properties button

  5. On this window, click the Configure button

  6. On this window, click the Advanced Tab.

  7. Click WaveLan Network Name and enter URNET (all capitals) under Value.
    Click OK.

  8. Back on the Local Area Connection Properties window, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

  9. Make sure Obtain and IP Address Automatically is selected. Click OK.

  10. Click OK. Then, click Close.
