Statement from President Thomas H. Jackson

Tuesday's events have undoubtedly affected, in deep and profound ways, each and every member of the University of Rochester community, from students, staff, and faculty, to alumni everywhere. And we certainly will continue to learn of the impact, direct and indirect, on us as individuals and as a member of our community, in the hours, days, weeks, and months ahead. The University of Rochester Medical Center has already offered its assistance to victims of the attack, and I pledge the support of all parts of the University to assist in any ways possible as we grapple with the consequences of this extraordinary tragedy.

I very much appreciate the way that students, faculty, and staff have come together in the first, stressful hours following this national tragedy. Everyone has responded in an exemplary fashion, reflecting the best values of our University community. Such a caring spirit will be our strength as the full effects of these events — on the University and the nation — make themselves evident.
