| Mission Statement: | To provide UR students with a fun and safe way to enjoy horseback riding lessons (hunt seat equitation) and compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. | |
| Meetings, Activities & Goals: | This semester we hope to gain new members to join us in something that we love and take pride in. We ride at Way Farm, which is about 20 minutes from campus. At this barn everyone rides mainly hunt seat equitation. The lesson groups are divided into skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and are generally 4-5 riders to a lesson. We take everyone from complete beginners to someone who's ridden since they were 2. We ride the farm's lesson horses for the most part but occasionally we use some of the privately owned horses. We also compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, which is fun (but completely optional). No one needs to own a horse for lessons or showing. To ride with the team, you sign a semester long contract. The semester fees to ride are generally around $ 150, depending on the team size and fundraising. Showing is an additional cost, becuase each rider must pay for their class fees and portion of the trainer fee. Additionaly, members of the team with cars are the team's source of transportation to and from lessons, so we also pitch in gas money. This year we are hoping to cut down on costs through fundraising, plan more social events and maybe even recieve donated horses. | |
