| Meetings, Activities & Goals: | From campaigning in races for offices large and small to movie nights, traveling to confrences to working with other campus clubs to discuss important issues on campus, the University of Rochester College Democrats are committed to advancing the principles of the Democratic party of equality, freedom and opportunity for all. Whether politics, issues and activism for you is a dedicated commitment or just an interest, the UR College Dems is the place where all progressives can work together to make our country better. We participate in a variety of activities, including: -Campaigning for local and national races, from the Monroe County Executive race to knocking on doors in Pennsylvania and Ohio for John Kerry -Working with other clubs on campus to sponsor discussions, fairs, rallies and other events to educate the UR community and bring important issues into the light (change wording) -Traveling to regional conferences with other College Democrats at other colleges and universities, and networking with progressive leaders and professionals -Attending free trainings on such issues as understanding labor unions and voter targeting -Meeting with prominent leaders who come to speak on campus, such as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2002 and New York State Atty. Gen. Eliot Spitzer in 2003 -Donkey parties! -Registering Democrats across our campus and in other states -Invitations to attend special events, such as meeting Sen. Edwards at a campaign stop in northern Pennsylvania or a fundraiser with DNC Chairman Howard Dean -Community service in Rochester, NY and surrounding areas | |
