How to Apply for Financial Aid -

First Year Undergraduates

The University of Rochester requires first-year undergraduate applicants for need-based financial assistance to complete

EARLY DECISION APPLICANTS

Must complete the College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE Registration by November 1 in order to complete the Application by November 15.  The FAFSA must be completed as soon after January1 as possible, and before February 1.

REGULAR DECISION APPLICANTS

Must complete both the Registration and Application steps of the College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE by February 1.  In order for you to complete the Application by February 1, you will need to complete the Registration by January 15.  After receiving your Registration, CSS will mail your application to you.  You may obtain the Registration information beginning in September from your high school guidance counselor, local college or university, by connecting to CSS on the Web at www.collegeboard.com, or by calling CSS at (800) 778-6888.  In order to meet our deadlines, please use the best estimated figures possible.  Using estimates is preferable to filing your financial aid applications late.  Be sure to include the University of Rochester's CSS code of  2928 when filing.

In addition, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming academic year as soon after January 1 as possible, and before February 1.  You may obtain this form from your guidance counselor, local college or university.  If you wish to file over the internet you may do so through the FAFSA Express on the Web at  www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Again, the use of estimated figures is permissible.  Be sure to include our federal school code number of 002894 when filing.

TRANSFER APPLICANTS

Must also file both the PROFILE and FAFSA forms as well as the First-Year Student Verification Statement, and are eligible to be considered for the same federal and state funds as first-year students.  However, transfer students may only receive university aid until the graduation date  that was determined at the time of admission.

It is essential that you obtain and file the above forms as soon as possible so that you may be considered for all types of University, federal, and state aid.  If you do not file in a timely manner, please be aware that you will run the risk of not receiving University scholarship and grant funds.  As the student, it is your responsibility to contact our office to request all forms needed to complete your financial aid file.

ACCEPTED STUDENTS

Once you have accepted an offer of admission to the University of Rochester, there are additional documents to provide in order to finalize your financial aid award.

The University of Rochester Verification Statement must be submitted by June 1. We will mail this form in the enrollment packet once you have submitted your deposit. If you do not receive a Verification Statement by June 1, please contact our office and we will provide you with one.

Undergraduate Students are required to provide a signed copy of their 2004 Federal Income Tax Return and all W-2 earnings statements by June 1.

Dependent Students must provide a signed copy of their PARENTS' 2004 Federal Income Tax Return and all W-2 earnings statements by June 1.

Independent Students who are MARRIED must also provide a signed copy of their SPOUSE'S 2004 Federal Income Tax Return and all W-2 earnings statements by June 1.

Be sure to sign all forms, report the student name and student identification number on all paperwork, and keep copies of all documents submitted to our office for your records.

Financial Aid Estimates for First Year Applicants

The University of Rochester has designed a financial aid estimator for families of first year students that are interested in financial aid eligibility.

Please note that the estimator results do not supercede any offer of financial assistance determined through the actual financial aid application process with the University of Rochester. We encourage families to read and print the financial aid estimator disclaimer before proceeding.
