Bausch & Lomb Hall
Bausch & Lomb Hall
Originally constructed to support the physics department and the Institute of Applied Optics in 1930, Bausch & Lomb Hall was named after the founders of the Bausch & Lomb Optical Company, John J. Bausch and Henry Lomb. Founded in 1929, The Institute of Optics is the nation's oldest educational program devoted exclusively to optics.
By the time Bausch & Lomb Hall was completed in 1930, the Institute of Optics was in full swing and quickly attained an outstanding reputation. In 1962 an addition was constructed to accommodate a larger program. Today, with the exception of a few general student classrooms, physics and astronomy remain the main focus of the building.
