Research at the University of Rochester's new Center for Future Health will be the subject of a lecture titled "Advanced Medical Technology on a Personal Scale," to be given by Philippe Fauchet, the Center's director. This program, part of the Wednesday Evening Lecture Series sponsored by Alumni Relations and Development, will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, in The Meliora in the Frederick Douglass Building on the University's River Campus. The University's Center for Future Health has a mission to create new, portable technologies for use by people in their own homes to prevent disease before it strikes. Engineers and physicians are working in collaboration to create items like a melanoma monitor, an interactive digital assistant, wearable computers, and memory glasses. The Center's goal is to make technology affordable and easy to use, so that the home, not a hospital or a doctor's office, becomes the location where patients maintain their health.

Fauchet is professor of electrical and computer engineering and of optics, and is also the senior scientist at the University's Laboratory for Laser Energetics.

Admission to the event is free, but reservations are requested at 273-5888.
