Faculty members from six disciplines at the University of Rochester will have their work published in the International Encyclopedia of Social and Behavioral Sciences, expected for release later this year. Published by Elsevier Science, the 26-volume work, the largest of its type, is an attempt to create a complete map of the social and behavioral sciences. In addition to a printed version, the resource also will be available in a fully searchable format online.
Contributing to the encyclopedia are Mohammed Bamyeh, visiting scholar in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures; Dale Dannefer, professor at the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development; Robert Foster, associate professor in the Department of Anthropology; and Howard Kirschenbaum, Frontier Professor of School, Family, and Community Relations at the Warner School.
Five additional contributors include Dr. Robert Ader, George L. Engel Professor of Psychosocial Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry; Richard Aslin, professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences; Edward Deci, professor in the Department of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology; Robert Jacobs, associate professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences; Harry T. Reis, professor in the Department of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology; and Richard Ryan, professor in the Department of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology.
When completed, the encyclopedia will include 4,000 signed articles from authors around the world on topics ranging from sociology to law and history. Rush Rhees Library expects to obtain a printed copy as well as provide access to the online articles through the Voyager network.
