Community Volunteers Welcome in Early Childhood Course

In partnership with the United Way, the University of Rochester is offering a course in early childhood education for community volunteers who work with young children.

The United Way's Rochester Early Childhood Education Volunteer program attempts to expand and improve education for young children and their families. Volunteers work one-on-one or with small groups of children, serving as role models and bringing expertise to classrooms that might not otherwise be affordable.

Now, volunteers may participate in a credit-bearing course at the University's Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development entitled "Early Childhood Education: Philosophical, Theoretical, and Practical Concerns." The class begins mid-February, and carries one hour of credit. It will provide a forum for exploring professional literature on early childhood education and the participants' experiences as volunteers.

For more information, contact the Warner School, 275-3950.
