EVENT: Caribbean Carnival on Yellowjacket Day
TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 1 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, on Wilson Commons Lawn on the University of Rochester's River Campus
ADMISSION: Free and open to the public
Note: Parking is available on University lots on weekends.
A celebration of Caribbean culture will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the University of Rochester.
"Caribbean Carnival on Yellowjacket Day" will feature fashion, art, crafts jewelry, carnival rides, Caribbean photo buttons, psychics, caricature artists, authentic Caribbean food, and Caribbean music on the Wilson Commons Lawn on the River Campus.
Performers include Nuff Respect, a reggae band featured on stage during Rochester's "MusicFest" and a regular act at Milestones Music Room; Omalay Dance Troupe, a group of young women from Brooklyn who will demonstrate Caribbean dances; the John Marshall High School Urban Steel Band, which features calypso sounds under the direction of Molly Traub; and Flor de Luna, a musical group blending samba, bossa, merengue, calypso, and salsa.
Vendors from Rochester and Buffalo will have booths of crafts, jewelry, and African and Caribbean art and clothing. LJ's Take Out & Restaurant will be selling Caribbean food.
