EVENT: Caribbean Carnival 2000
TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, Dandelion Square on the River Campus of the University of Rochester (rain location: Wilson Commons)
ADMISSION: Free and open to the public Note: Parking is available on University lots on weekends.
The Black Students' Union of the University of Rochester will celebrate the culture of the Caribbean with Caribbean Carnival 2000. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, on the newly constructed Dandelion Square, located between the Robert B. Goergen Athletic Center and the Frederick Douglass Building on the River Campus.
Vendors will be offering Caribbean food and arts and crafts. Activities will include face painting, and entertainers will be performing throughout the afternoon.
Scheduled acts include The Outkasters, a reggae band that opened for The Roots when the hip-hop group played in Rochester last fall. Also on the program is PanLoco, a local seven-piece band celebrated for its dizzying steel drum performance, and the award-winning Borinquen Dance Theatre, known for the unique blend of African and Taino culture in its pieces.
In case of rain, Caribbean Carnival 2000 will be held indoors in Wilson Commons.
