Warner School Hosts Conference on Assessment Practices

Jay McTighe, assessment consultant and national lecturer, will speak about the myths of assessment practices and the ways educators can use curriculum to exceed set standards at the 11th annual Assessment Conference, sponsored by the Warner Center for Professional Development and Education Reform at the University of Rochester. The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in Hutchison Hall on the River Campus.

Following the talk, participants will have the opportunity to interact in work sessions to increase their understanding of the role assessment procedures and standards play in the education of students from kindergarten through grade 12.

McTighe is the co-author of Understanding by Design, a book about the ways that curricula can engage students and lead to a greater understanding of ideas, and how assessment tools may better reveal those things learned. A former classroom teacher, McTighe was also the director of the Maryland Assessment Consortium.
