Actor Alec Baldwin will present a program titled "An Evening with Alec Baldwin on Issues That Matter" at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester River Campus.
A passionate believer in liberal politics, Baldwin is an outspoken supporter of various causes related to public policy. As an activist, his interests include campaign finance reform, environmentalism, gun control, and animal rights. Baldwin is a board member of People for the American Way, The Creative Coalition, and Standing for Truth About Radiation (STAR).
An acclaimed actor, Baldwin has appeared in numerous stage and film productions. After winning an Obie Awarded for Best Actor in 1991 as Peter in the theater drama Prelude to a Kiss, he received a Best Actor Tony nomination for his performance in the 1992 Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire. His movie credits include Beetlejuice, Working Girl, The Hunt for Red October, and Malice. Baldwin's production company, El Dorado Pictures, has co-produced The Confession (winner of the 2000 Writers Guild Award for best adapted screenplay by David Black) for Cinemax Television, Nuremberg: Infamy on Trial for Turner Network Television, and State and Main, a motion picture comedy written and directed by David Mamet.
Baldwin originally attended George Washington University and had plans to obtain a law degree when he auditioned for the New York University undergraduate drama program on a dare. He was accepted and began training in 1979. Baldwin later returned to New York University in 1993 to complete his undergraduate studies, receiving a bachelor of fine arts degree in drama. He is currently a member of the Dean's Council of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Admission to "An Evening with Alec Baldwin" is $3 for University of Rochester undergraduates with an ID and $5 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased at the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus, at Media Play in Southtown Plaza, and will also be available at the door. Tickets purchased last fall for this event, originally scheduled in November, will be honored.
