Daniel Harrison, associate professor of music at the University of Rochester, has been awarded the Young Scholar Award of the Society for Music Theory.
The award is granted annually to a scholar for a high- quality book or article published before the age of 40.
Harrison received the prize at the organization's annual meeting for his 1994 book Harmonic Function in Tonal Music: A Renewed Dualist Theory and an Account of Its Precedents, published by the University of Chicago Press.
Harrison has been a faculty member in the College and Eastman School of Music since 1987. Recently, he was a featured commentator in a documentary film about Beach Boys member Brian Wilson.
