EVENT: World Beyond Our Borders Gets Attention Next Week
The chance to savor what’s international from food and films to culture and careers will arrive during International Education Week, Nov. 15 to 19. The Center for Study Abroad and the International Services Office have organized a full schedule of events with other groups in the College to expand this year’s activities.
“The University of Rochester’s commitment to international education has received enthusiastic support from students who choose to enhance their education by studying abroad,” says Jacqueline Levine, assistant dean and director of study abroad. “They’re part of a rich tradition of international education here.” More than 1,000 international students study each year in Rochester, and hundreds of Rochester students travel to other countries.
Representatives of the New York Japanese Consulate will open the week at noon Monday, Nov. 15, in the Stackel Room of Wilson Commons to interest students in teaching English in Japan. A full introduction to study abroad programs at Rochester will follow at 1 p.m. in room 122 of Wilson Commons.
Separate sessions on summer study in Oaxaca, Mexico, and Rennes, France, for example, will help students plan programs shorter than semester-long options in Australia and New Zealand, which are popular destinations for Americans.
More discussions on international study and careers will run all week while the University community can enjoy special dining at Wilson Commons, Danforth Dining Center, and Eastman Dining Center, or leave campus for the continuing 2004 Polish Film Festival at the Little Theatre, 240 East Ave., which is sponsored by the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies.

The International Round Table, which is a working group chaired by the Center for Study Abroad and the International Services Office that focuses on issues of international education exchange, developed the IEW programs.
