EVENT: "Life," an exhibit of old and new photographs chronicling events in the life of the artist

In an exhibit of photographs called "Life," photographer Stephen Dybas scanned old photographs of his father and shot new ones to share the happy times of the life of Joseph Dybas, who is fighting cancer. The show in the Galley of the Art & Music Library on the University of Rochester's River Campus is free and open to the public.

Putting the exhibit together "has been a very cathartic process—reaffirming both the joys of my father's life and the role he has played in mine," says Stephen Dybas, who teaches photography at the University. The display of about 100 color and black-and-white photographs represents seven decades of the senior Dybas's life. His son also stationed in the gallery three microscopes with slides to view that represent his father "living under the microscope" as family and friends ask about his health and recovery.

Stephen Dybas earned his bachelor's degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, and his master of fine arts degree from Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester. He also has taught introductory and advanced photography courses at SUNY Brockport, and has experience in editing, imaging, and management.

The exhibit in the gallery on the ground floor of Rush Rhees Library will continue through Friday, Feb. 18. The hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. For more information, contact the gallery at (585) 275-4476.
