ADMISSION: Free and open to the public
A panel discussion on Social Security reform will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in lower Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester’s River Campus. Experts from the University of Rochester and an invited guest will discuss the state of the current Social Security system and prospects for change.
Panelists will include Alan C. Stockman, Marie C. & Joseph C. Wilson Professor of Economics and chair of the economics department; Bruce Jacobs, professor of political science and University Dean of Graduate Studies; and guest speaker Marcellus Andrews, senior research fellow at the New America Foundation. Michael Wolkoff, senior lecturer in economics and in public policy at the University, will moderate the panel. It is free and open to the public.
The participants will attempt to depoliticize the controversial issue of reforming Social Security and provide an understanding of the true state of the current system. They will address whether or not the current system is in need of serious structural changes and, if so, what should these changes look like. The program will begin with an hour-long panel discussion followed by a question-and-answer period.
This event is sponsored by the Department of Economics, the Department of Political Science, and these student organizations: Students for Liberty, Students for Social Justice, Outside Speakers Committee, Undergraduate Economics Council, and Political Science Undergraduate Council.
