EVENT: "A Night of Improv with Trix: Whose ASL is It?" by national deaf performer Trix Bruce

Patricia (Trix) Bruce, a deaf storyteller, poet, and actress, will present "A Night of Improv with Trix: Whose ASL is It?" at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, in Hubbell Auditorium in Hutchison Hall on the University of Rochester's River Campus. Tickets to the event, which is sponsored by the American Sign Language Club, cost $3 for University students, $5 for students with other college ID, and $7 for the general public. They can be purchased in advance starting April 1 at the Common Market of Wilson Commons on the River Campus or at the door. An interpreter will accompany the show.

Bruce is known nationwide as both a workshop presenter and an ASL performer. In her show, Bruce will use different ideas from the audience as well as audience members to improvise in the mode of "ASL-libbing."

As a deaf poet and actress, Bruce's performances draw heavily on her life experiences. She has been involved in theater arts since 1980 when she won the role of Helen Keller in her freshman year of high school. She has participated in summer programs hosted by the National Theater of the Deaf and performed at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
