Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity (SigEp) at the University of Rochester is holding its third annual Nick Tahou’s Garbage Plate Run at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, to support CURE Childhood Cancer Association. Sponsors and teams from campus and the Rochester community are welcome to join the four-mile event.
The run and relay race involve one member of each team running two miles from the University’s River Campus to Nick Tahou’s eatery at 320 W. Main St.; another member eats a “garbage plate,” Tahou’s specialty meal; and a third returns to campus. The teams gather before the race in the circle in front of Hill Court residences near Wilson Boulevard and Intercampus Drive.
Sponsors have donated prizes for top finishers and other participants. When the race ends, runners can enjoy free barbecue and others can buy a $10 T-shirt and eat lunch.
For $30, a team can register at Douglass Dining Center through Friday, April 22, or go to Wilson Commons from Monday, April 25, to Thursday, April 28, during lunch and dinner hours. At other times, contact the fraternity’s vice president of programming, Jason Novak, at (585) 274-2509.
Proceeds will support CURE Childhood Cancer Association. CURE was founded in 1976 by a group of parents whose children died of cancer. The group helps more than 1,000 Rochester-area families each year cope with childhood cancer.
Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Rochester was chartered in 1986. An alumnus, who counted Tahou’s as one of his favorite places to eat, started the Nick Tahou’s Garbage Plate Run.
