EVENT: Wincheng Lin minority bone marrow drive at University of Rochester

TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Hirst Lounge in Wilson Commons on the University's River Campus.

ADMISSION: Free and the public is encouraged to attend.

The annual bone marrow registry drive by Sigma Psi Zeta sorority is being held in honor of Wincheng Lin, Class of 2002 and original founder of the drive. She was diagnosed with leukemia in June. Now, the drive she created in 1998 to help an ailing friend could be her chance to find a donor. Doctors say a bone marrow transplant is her best chance for a cure.

"Donor matches are highest amongst siblings and thank goodness I have two sisters, but the results don't look too promising. And unfortunately, donor matches through the registry are low (1 out of 20,000)...Please join the bone marrow registry as soon as possible," Lin said in a statement.

Organized by Sigma Psi Zeta and supported by various student groups, including ADITI, BSA, CSA, FASA, KASA, SALSA, Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity, Inc. and the Medical Students of America. The event is in conjunction with at least 21 campaigns nationwide, including Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, and New York City.

FOR MORE INFORMATION: Visit the informational coffee night, which will feature live campus group performances and guest speakers from the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25 in Hirst Lounge. Representatives from NMDP will also be at the registry drives to answer questions.
