EVENT: Recital by award-winning Eastman School of Music pianist

TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in Lower Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester's River Campus

ADMISSION: Free and open to the public; light refreshments will be provided.

Igor Lipinski, a graduate of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Music High School in Tarnow, Poland, and sophomore at the Eastman School of Music, will perform pieces by a range of composers, including Franz Schubert, Fryderyk Chopin, Franz Liszt, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, and Grazyna Bacewicz.

The 19-year-old pianist, who is studying with Professor Douglas Humpherys at Eastman, is the recipient of the Grand Prix for Young Pianists at the Paderewski Festival at Kasna Dolna, Poland, and the Grand Prix Award in the piano category at the Paderewski Festival in Buffalo, N.Y. He also was given the City of Tarnow Presidential Award for Outstanding Achievements in the Arts. Lipinski has presented several recitals in the United States, including those in Buffalo, Honolulu, and Pittsburgh, and has played at the River Theater in North Tonawanda and at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautaqua.

The recital is sponsored by the University of Rochester's Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies and Department of Music. The center's continuing Skalny Lecture and Artist Series offers musical performances, lectures, films, and other presentations about Poland and Central Europe.
