His recent book with coauthor David Dorsey is titled It Isn't Just Business, It's Personal: How PAETEC Thrived When All the Big Telecoms Couldn't (RIT Cary Graphic Arts Press, 184 pages).

In May 1998, he founded PAETEC Communications Inc. and within five years it was ranked second on the list of fastest-growing companies by Deloitte & Touche. Ernst & Young named Chesonis Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master's degree in business administration from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester, and was awarded an honorary doctorate of laws from the University of Rochester.
