Gollin Film Festival Seeks Submissions

The Gollin Film Festival, a film contest for students at the University of Rochester, is seeking entries. The festival is in its second year and is open to all currently enrolled students at the University.

Each student may submit up to two films created since enrolling at the University. Acceptable formats include mini-DV, VHS, DVD, and 16mm. Digital pieces are accepted on CD-R or Macintosh compatible DVD, excluding DVD+R. Students must make sure their work is compatible with most DVD players. There is no limit on length, but for first viewing, media should be cued to the strongest two to three minutes.

Applications are available at the Sage Art Center and the Film and Media Studies office located in Rush Rhees Library, both on the University's River Campus. Applicants are asked to submit an application before submitting their entries. Entries will be collected at the Sage Art Center. All materials must be submitted by Friday, April 20.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners during a screening of the winning films at the end of the academic year. The Gollin Film Festival, named for Professor Emeritus of English Richard Gollin, is sponsored by the University's Film and Media Studies Program. Gollin founded the film studies program at the University in 1976 with the assistance of a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and headed it until his retirement in 1989.
