EVENT: Concert of highlights from the Women in Music Festival
TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, in the Interfaith Chapel on the University of Rochester's River Campus
ADMISSION: Free and open to the public
A concert that highlights performances from the Eastman School of Music's Women in Music Festival will feature woodwind quintet Antara Winds. The group will join pianist Joseph Werner to perform Libby Larsen's "Blue Window: After Marc Chagall," which was composed for them. This concert will also feature Amy Beach's "Piano Quintet in F-Sharp Minor" performed by well-known local musicians James Douhit, piano; Margaret Leenhouts and Pia Liptak, violins; Olita Povero, viola; and Kathleen Murphy Kemp, cello
Soprano Eileen Strempel and pianist Sylvie Beaudette will be performing selected songs from the "Atwood Commission Project." Strempel is an assistant professor at Syracuse University. Beaudette is an assistant professor of chamber music and accompanying at the University's Eastman School of Music and is the director of the Women in Music Festival. Eastman student Madeline Miskie, accompanied by pianist Christina Lalog, will perform songs by Madeleine Dring.
This concert is presented as part of the Humanities Project, an initiative at the University of Rochester emphasizing the influence and contributions of the humanities to academic and civic life, and is also sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender and Women's Studies.
