EVENT: Diversity Forum: What does "diversity" mean?

The term diversity has become a "buzzword" in our schools, media, and culture in general. But what does the word actually mean to the individuals at institutions using it, and how can we make sure that the pursuit of equality for all is the end result of all the discussion and efforts?

This forum has been organized to bring together scholars and administrators from other universities and colleges, as well as the University of Rochester, to describe how questions of diversity are approached and remedied at our institutions. Is diversity something that is defined through race, income, or other considerations? Are our definitions of diversity inclusive? Are they political, historical, or entirely "personal"?

Two University of Rochester humanities professors, Stephanie Li and Rachel Haidu, set the plans for the forum in motion to promote further dialogue between students and campus faculty, as well as the community at large, including guest speakers from the Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John's Fisher College, and Cornell University.
