EVENT: Reading by writers Peg Boyers and Robert Boyers
TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Welles-Brown Room of Rush Rhees Library on the University of Rochester's River Campus
ADMISSION: Free and open to the public
Peg Boyers and Robert Boyers, English professors at Skidmore College and co-editors of Salmagundi, a literary quarterly that features essays, reviews, fiction, poetry, and regular columns, will be reading pieces of their creative work.
Robert Boyers, director of the New York State Summer Writers Institute, is author of several books, including Exitable Women, Damaged Men (Turtlepoint Press), a collection of nine stories about the personal dilemmas of a group of troubled New Yorkers and Atrocity and Amnesia: The Political Novel Since 1945 (Oxford University Press), a literary examination of novels by Gunter Grass, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Milan Kundera and others.
Peg Boyers is the author of Hard Bread (Phoenix Poets). The poems in Hard Bread are "spoken" in the imagined voice of the Italian writer Natalia Ginzburg (1916-1991). Boyers has also translated from Spanish to Italian such writers as Guillermo Cabrera Infante, and Natalia Ginzburg.
This reading is sponsored by the Plutzik Memorial Reading. Since 1962, the University of Rochester has been celebrating the life and poetic achievements of Hyam Plutzik (1911-1962), critically-acclaimed poet and University of Rochester faculty member, by bringing the Rochester community readings by the finest contemporary literary artists.
