EVENT: Network of Alumni Give Service in Nine Cities Across U.S.

More than 100 alumni of the University of Rochester will work at locations in nine major U.S. cities on Saturday, Sept. 13, for a day of community service that ties school spirit with helping others.

Wilson Day USA--named for University benefactor Joseph C. Wilson and his family--will link graduates in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, New York City, Philadelphia, San Jose, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., as they work in their communities. Now in its fifth year, Wilson Day USA is expected to involve more than 100 alumni, parents, and friends of Rochester. Activities are organized through the efforts of the Office of College Advancement and its UR Involved Volunteer Program.

The College emphasizes the importance of community service by making Wilson Days a component of freshman orientation. That provides an early opportunity for incoming students to bond with each other, their college, and the Rochester, N.Y., community. This year, more than 1,000 volunteers will participate in Wilson Days on Aug. 29 and 30.

For Wilson Day USA, alumni will work from coast to coast as they paint and garden at shelters, remove brush and landscape along public waterways, plant trees in an urban forest, sort and pack donated canned goods, and clean up and restore a city park.
