EVENT: Mother/Son, a one-act play about the relationship between a Jewish mother and her gay son

Mother/Son, a one-act play about the hilarious and poignant relationship between a Jewish mother and her gay son, will be performed at the University of Rochester at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Gowen Room in Wilson Commons on the River Campus.

Written and performed by Jeffrey Solomon, the play is based on the conversations Solomon had with his mother after he came out to her. The play follows the woman's struggles to accept her son's homosexuality and to come out herself as the mother of a gay man.

Solomon does double duty as Mindy and Brad, underscoring the bond between mother and son. He's performed the play at several theaters in New York City as well as at colleges, conferences, and institutions around the country, earning praise for the touching and moving writing and portrayals.

Solomon is a television writer who penned the Jim Henson ABC-TV special CityKids, which was Emmy nominated for Best Children's Special as well as receiving an Ollie award for Excellence in Children's Programming. He was a staff writer for the series of the same name, and has written for Tribeca on the Fox network, Davis Rules on ABC, and original projects for Nickelodeon and Children's Television Workshop.
