UR Press Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The University of Rochester Press is celebrating its 10th anniversary by hosting several events to showcase some of its newest publications. One of the Press' most recent works, The Broadway Sound: The Autobiography and Selected Essays of Robert Russell Bennett, will be the focus of a public lecture and concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in Eastman's Kilbourn Hall, 26 Gibbs St.

The concert by the Eastman Wind Ensemble, featuring Bennett's music, will begin at 8 p.m. Sponsored by the Press and the Eastman School of Music, the lecture and concert are free and open to the public.

Established in 1989, the University of Rochester Press has produced more than 100 scholarly titles in a variety of subjects, including science, history, music, art, African studies, and philosophy. The range of titles has been expanded into medical history, musicology and music theory.

Other events promoting recent publications of the Press include an exhibit of paintings by Carl Peters, introducing the book Carl Peters: American Scene Painter from Rochester to Rockport, and a reception with the University's Center for Polish and Central European Studies to mark the release of the book, Lessons in Democracy, edited by Ewa Hauser, director of the center, and Jacek Wasilewski of Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.

The University of Rochester Press is the only academic press in the Rochester area, with an office located at 668 Mt. Hope Ave. British-based publisher Boydell & Brewer operates the Press on behalf of the University.
