EVENT: Performance by comic monologue/dance artist Claire Porter

A delightful actress, writer, dancer, choreographer, and comedienne, Claire
Porter will entertain her audiences with a funny and inventive performance of
movement and comedy titled Namely, Muscles at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14,
in the dance studio in Spurrier Hall on the University of Rochester's River
Campus.
Porter will portray Dr. Nickie Nom, a forensic orthopedic autopsy muscular anatomical
surgical specialist, while reading from her new book of more than 30 poems that
animate 68 major muscles of the body. "Who else could make poetry out of
the muscles of the body?" exclaims Vera Blaine, professor emerita of dance
composition and choreography at Ohio State University, calling Porter's imaginative
performance "a new gem."
An expert in using language to describe and interpret human movement, Porter
is a Laban Movement analyst and has taught choreography at Columbia Teachers
College in New York City. A recipient of several choreography fellowships from
the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey State Council on the
Arts, she earned her master of arts degree in dance from Ohio State University.
The presentation is sponsored by the Program of Movement and Dance. Admission
is $5 for University of Rochester undergraduate students and $7 for the general
public. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Common Market in Wilson Commons
