Professor Badolato’s research focuses on the fabrication and study of nanostructures that are small enough to exhibit quantum effects in their electronic properties. We integrate such nanostructures with photonic materials and study the coupling between light and matter. Such systems offer unique opportunities to perform “do-it-yourself” quantum mechanics experiments and may have important technological applications. Current areas of interest include solid-state artificial atoms (quantum dots), microcavities (photonic crystals), and solid-state cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED).
