Biography
Thomas Eickbush is concerned with the integration mechanism of retrotransposable elements, the origin and evolution of these elements, and the regulation of rRNA genes. His current research is focused on the mechanism of integration and regulation of retrotransposable elements that insert into the rDNA loci. These studies involve in vitro studies of the endonucleases and reverse transcriptases encoded by these elements, epigenetic control over their activity, the analysis of variation within populations, the utilization of the sequence data generated by genome sequencing projects, and the analysis of the changes that occur in laboratory strains over time.
