Professor Basu's specific interests in the field include; petrology and geochemistry of igneous and metamporphic rocks, applications of different systematics in geochronology and thermochronology, isotope geochemistry and geochronology in crust-mantle evolution and petrogenesis, ground and river water geochemistry and the marine isotopic record, continental flood basalt geochemistry and geochronology and mantle plume volcanism, mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry of impact craters and meteorites, impact tracers at geological boundaries and mass extinction, and the petrology and geochemistry of subduction-zone metamorphic rocks, mantle-wedge processes and tectonics.
