Richard M. Ryan, professor of psychology, psychiatry, and education at the University of Rochester, is known internationally for his research on motivation. He and Edward L. Deci, both on the faculty of the Department of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology, have developed Self-Determination Theory to describe how people are intrinsically motivated.

In his talk on the "Dark Side to the American Dream," Ryan will explain people's reactions to wealth and success, and also will discuss what really makes people happy.

Tea Talks is a continuing series sponsored by River Campus Libraries. This is the final talk of the academic year presented in a casual atmosphere with tea and biscuits. Free parking will be available in Library Lot and at most other locations on campus.
