Wilson Commons could get a little messy in honor of National Engineers Week.
That's because in honor of the week, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at the University of Rochester are hosting the Egg Drop Design Competition.
The competition will run from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, on the Bridge Lounge in Wilson Common's on the University's River Campus. Teams can still apply to compete.
The goal of the competition is to design a device that will securely hold an egg, as it falls from the bridge and lands on the floor of Wilson Commons. The egg should withstand the fall without breaking. The three teams with the best scores will receive cash and fun prizes.
Other highlights of the week include an EngiNerd Quiz Bowl, sponsored by Tau Beta Pi, and tunnel painting, sponsored by American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE).
Engineers Week, which runs from Feb. 18 to Feb. 24, is dedicated to raising public awareness of engineers' positive contributions to our quality of life while promoting the importance of a technical education and a high level of math, science, and technology literacy, and motivating youth to pursue engineering careers.
