EVENT: The Franklin College Prep Center will officially open its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 29.

TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, Franklin Educational Campus at Vanguard Academy (950 Norton Street Rochester, NY 14621)

WHAT: Thanks to a generous grant from the Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation, students at the Vanguard Collegiate High School and other schools on the Benjamin Franklin High School campus will receive one-on-one advice and assistance about the college admissions process at the new Franklin College Prep Center.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be attended by Beth Olivares, associate dean of diversity initiatives at the University of Rochester, Carol Jones, principal of Vanguard Academy, and Nick Robfogel, chairman of the board at the Farash Foundation, among other attendees.

The Franklin College Prep Center is a partnership between the school and the University's David T. Kearns Center for Leadership and Diversity in Arts, Sciences and Engineering. The Farash Foundation grant will enable the Kearns Center to place one full-time staff member and up to two AmeriCorps members at the Center. Franklin's College Prep Center, which is modeled after a center at East High School, will host classroom workshops focused on goal setting, career exploration, college preparation, and academic support. Students also will participate in college admissions visits and field trips through the center.
