Three software companies have been approved by New York State to participate in the START-UP NY economic development program. The companies will locate in High Tech Rochester’s (HTR) Lennox Tech Enterprise Center in Henrietta.

“These companies are an example of the START-UP NY program’s potential to keep ideas and new technologies in Rochester and New York State and give them a platform to expand and compete in the marketplace,” said Joel Seligman, president of the University of Rochester. “As this program begins to gain momentum, we anticipate that more companies will partner with the University and HTR to create new jobs, enhance technology commercialization, and revitalize the upstate economy.”

Temida/eStork is an early-stage software company that provides web-based application that broker transactions between medical supply companies and health care providers, enabling hospital purchasing departments to lower their expenses. The company is a graduate of HTR’s LaunchPad program, which connects teams of software development entrepreneurs with HTR’s mentors, business advisors, and support services. The company is committed to creating 21 new jobs.

FillShift is a newly-created software development company that is developing a web-based application that will enable employers to fill open shifts. The software uses a proprietary algorithm to analyze the company’s existing workforce or identify workers in partner agencies to match workers with the required skills to fill work schedules. The company will help companies minimize overtime costs, avoid temp agency fees, and reduce administrative effort. The company is committed to creating seven new jobs.

Dogways is an emerging early-stage software company that has developed a mobile and web application that allows dog owners to find activities for their dogs – such as a dog walk or a get together at a dog park – through a personalized event calendar and activity feed. The application allows individuals or businesses to create an event and invite friends or other users based upon their location. The company is a graduate of the HTR LaunchPad program and is committing to create 31 new jobs.

The START-UP NY initiative – created by Governor Cuomo and approved by the New York State legislature in June 2013 – provides participating companies with tax exemptions for 10 years when they locate in designated areas associated with colleges and universities and align with a school’s core academic mission.

Last year, the New York State START-UP NY program board approved the University of Rochester’s plan to designate 105,894 square feet of tax free space at HTR’s Lennox Tech Enterprise Center in Henrietta and buildings 59 and 320 in Eastman Business Park.  HTR is an affiliate of the University of Rochester.
