Meeting of the Minds IV.....
OFF THE CHAIN!
Just when you thought you heard every parking song that could be sung…Meeting of the Minds IV topped the Parking Billboard Charts with a number one hit! Since Meeting of the Minds IV was all about Sustainability and how it related to Parking and Transportation, attendees took bikes, planes, low sulfur diesel buses, hybrids, electric vehicles, gas vehicles, and even Chariots and shoe leather express to arrive in attendance at this grand 3-day event. (One attendee wanted to ride their horse but Coral Parking Permits were too expensive).
Kim Jackson, CAPP, Executive Director for IPI, opened MOMIV with a speech that touched upon the new products and services IPI will be introducing. Doug Holmes , CAPP, the new Chair for International Parking Institute (IPI), followed Kim and gave an introductory presentation on the direction he plans to take IPI in the upcoming future years.
MOMIV rolled out the red carpet, with “Parking EXPO”, a Parking Solutions Forum, hosted by Stan Wolfson (Clancy Systems) and Ken Stewart (Urban Transportation Solutions). They teamed up with 9 other speakers to “WOW” the audience with the latest parking “gagets” and informational in-service. For 3 hours they captivated the audience’s attention with their keynote speaker, Robin Blair, Transportation Planner Manager for Los Angeles Metro and various vendors from all across the states.
Kim Jackson , CAPP, came back and hosted “Service Excellence: how can you deliver?”. She presented three 1-hour sessions over the course of the two days, reaching over 100 University Parking and Transportation staff. Doug Holmes, CAPP, came back and told us “How to Create, Refine and Evaluate Enforcement and Adjudication Systems”, and Scott Conroy from First Transit assisted Chris Austin ( University of Buffalo) in teaching us “How to Build a Successful Transportation Program”.
University of Rochester’s very own, Marvin Stillman (Manager of Hazardous Waste) , Dana Perrin (Manager of Technical Systems), Mark Cavanaugh (Director of Environmental Health & Safety), and Barb Saat (HR Manager) presented on Sector Impacts on Land, Air & Sea; CTTED – Crime Prevention through Environmental Design & Lighting, Disaster Planning and Personality Profiles respectively. Dean Koyanagi, Cornell University’s Sustainability Coordinator spoke on Sustainability and Laura Lierz and Mark Slingerland from T2 hosted a T2 User forum. Laura Lierz then came back and presented on Credit Card Processing and new ways to pay for parking. LarryDonoghue from Larry Donoghue Associates shared tips on “How to Stop Employee Fraud with Internal Audits” and David Leib from Cornell University alerted us that “People Don’t Want Parking”.
Back by popular demand, Richard “Glen Sicard” Dawson, hosted Parking Family Feud II. Parking teams also faced off at “Big Daddy’s Bowling Beatdown” Bowling Party followed by dinner at Pelicans Nest Restaurant situated on Lake Ontario, dancing the night away to a steel drum band. The 2-day workshop concluded with a Golf Tournament and all-you-can-eat-buffet. Food, fun and great camaraderie was the agenda for this event!
