Construction Begins 7/6 on New RTS Bus Shelters at MC, College Town
Coming this fall, four new well-appointed bus shelters will adorn the Medical Center campus, along with two along Mt. Hope Avenue for College Town patrons.
The shelters—owned and maintained by RTS as part of Rochester’s public transportation system—will offer convenience while improving access to their second most-traveled-to destination, our campus. The contemporary design will include bike racks, along with Blue Light phones connected to Public Safety, video surveillance, seating, and heating. Patrons can also stay informed via messaging and real-time RTS arrival data through integrated digital displays.
“We are very excited to have these state-of-the-art facilities coming to the University,” said Hugh Kierig, director of Transportation and Parking Management. “RTS offers an extensive network of buses with multiple stops around the Medical Center. Public transportation is a great way to get to school and work without the expense of driving, and it has added benefits for the environment. RTS is also an integral and valued part of our UR Connections program.”
Med Center shelters will be located at:
- Golisano Children’s Hospital entrance on Crittenden Blvd.
- Mental Health and Wellness entrance on Crittenden Blvd. (formerly Behavioral Health), across from the Saunders Research Building
- School of Medicine and Dentistry on Elmwood Avenue
- Eastman Dental on Elmwood Avenue
The College Town shelters will sit between Bruegger’s and McDonalds and north of Celebration Drive on Mt. Hope Avenue.
