New mobile parking application enables motorists to pay for parking along Wilson Boulevard with a smartphone.
Beginning Monday, March 5, the University of Rochester will utilize PassportParking for a smoother and more convenient app experience. The PassportParking app can be used in 70 spaces on Wilson Boulevard. On Thursday, March 1, parking crews will install signs and decals on the sides of meters, that list new zone numbers, as part of a new custom University-wide mobile parking application. The new signs and decals will identify each of the designated parking blocks with a distinctive six-digit zone code.
PassportParking allows motorists to forego coins at the meters, and instead pay on the go with their mobile device. The technology will also warn parkers when their time is about to expire and gives parkers the flexibility to extend their parking session (up to the maximum allotted time) through their smartphone. The app is also based on a user’s registered license plate number, so there is no need to remember a space number when parking.
