Using Zimride to plan your next trip can save you money by sharing the ride. It’s free and easy to find a ride, or post one of your own!
What is Zimride?
Zimride is a fun and easy way to share the seats in your car or catch a ride. With Zimride, you can find friends, classmates, and coworkers within the University going the same way you are. If you have a car, split costs by offering rides. If you don’t have a car, find rides where you need to go and offer to help pay.
Anyone with a NetID is ready to get started at www.zimride.com/rochester. The first step is logging in and creating your profile—this is a great step for everyone to complete. Provide as much info as you like (about you, music and interests, where you work, and your vehicle info) and you can even connect to your Facebook profile, which will pull in your pic automatically. Once your profile is saved, you’re ready to post a ride.
Post it up!
With a quick click and Google Maps, you can list yourself as a driver or a passenger in need of a ride. (Be specific about your location—exact addresses won’t show in the Search pages so personal info is up to you to share with prospective riders.)
Select the time you’re looking to travel and whether it’s a one-time deal or a routine hike to work or school. (For commutes, you can select which days and note travel times for each.)
The final step is identifying how many seats are available—Zimride suggests limiting to three for full-size vehicles to make sure everyone is comfortable—and list any specifics in the Notes (i.e., smoke-free vehicle, meeting point for pickup/drop-off, etc.). If desired, you can even set a cost for the ride that you either charge or are willing to pay. And if you have a PayPal account, single trips can be transacted right through that service.
You can make offline arrangements for cost sharing. It’s completely up to you as the rider or driver to decide what works best for your situation.
Find a Ride
Profile in place and with your ride posted, you’re ready to start matchmaking! Under the Search section you’ll see the day’s listing of available riders and passengers by town. To locate opportunities more specific to your area, put in your township or zip code. (Any locations within Rochester postal codes are listed as “Rochester,” but a postal code search will help distinguish other communities like Greece.)
When you find a rider or driver that matches your criteria, connect right through Zimride e-mail, which appears in your Inbox and displays on your Dashboard.
