EVENT: University of Rochester Chamber Singers Concert, "My Beloved is Mine: Music Inspired by the 'Song of Songs' "

The University of Rochester Chamber Singers will present a concert titled "My
Beloved is Mine: Music Inspired by the 'Song of Songs' " at 8 p.m. Saturday,
Nov. 22, in St. Anne Church, 1600 Mt. Hope Ave.
The program will include musical performances based on the "Song of Songs"
from various time periods and genres ranging from plainchant and Renaissance
motets to gospel music. The "Song of Songs," also known as the "Song
of Solomon" or as "Canticles," is a book of enigmatic poetry
on the theme of love found in the Hebrew Bible and in the Old Testament of the
Christian Bible.
The concert will feature Bach's "Cantata No. 140" with orchestra.
The program also includes works by Palestrina, Schutz, Healey Willan, Renee
Clausen, and William Billings.
Led by L. Brett Scott, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities,
the Chamber Singers is a select choral ensemble dedicated to the performance
of all periods and styles of quality choral literature.
