DEPARTMENT OF RELIGION AND CLASSICS FACULTY TEAM
William Scott Green is Professor of Religion, Philip S. Bernstein Professor of Judaic Studies, and Dean of the College at the University of Rochester. In 1993, he founded the Department of Religion and Classics at the University of Rochester, where Religion is one of the most popular humanities majors. As the principle administrator of undergraduate education at the University, he has led in developing the distinctive system of majors and clusters known as the Rochester Curriculum.
Green has written extensively on religion, ancient Judaism and higher education. He served as the editor of The Journal of American Academy of Religion from 1985 until 1994. He was also co-editor of The Encyclopedia of Judaism (2002); co-editor of The Dictionary of Judaism in the Biblical Period (1996); and associate editor for HarperCollins Dictionary of Religion (1995).

Curt Cadorette
Curt Cadorette is the John Henry Newman Associate Professor of Roman Catholic Studies at the University of Rochester where he has taught since 1994. Prior to his appointment, he worked in Peru. His research focuses on contemporary Catholicism in its Latin American and North American manifestations. His works include From the Heart of the People: The Theology of Gustavo Gutiérrez and Liberation Theology: A Reader, along with many journal articles.
Jonathan Geen
Jonathan Geen is currently the Senior Lecturer in Sanskrit in the Department of Religion and Classics at the University of Rochester. He received his doctorate in Religious Studies (2001) from McMaster University in Canada, with a focus upon the Indian Sanskrit epic tradition. He has translated passages from a wide variety of Hindu and Jaina versions of the Indian epic Mahabharata, and is currently pursuing an interest in the field of Science and Religion.
Th. Emil Homerin
Th. Emil Homerin (Ph.D. University of Chicago, '87) is Professor of Religion and former Chair of the Department of Religion & Classics at the University of Rochester, where he teaches courses on Islam, classical Arabic literature, and mysticism. Homerin has lived and worked in Egypt for a number of years, most recently in the summer of 2000. Among his many publications are From Arab Poet to Muslim Saint (2nd revised edition,
Cairo: American University Press, 2001) and Ibn al-Fârid: Sufi Verse & Saintly Life (Paulist Press, 2001).
Kathleen Parthe
Kathleen Parthe is Professor of Russian and Director of Russian Studies at the University of Rochester. She has written and lectured extensively on Russian nationalism as well as other literary and political topics, and at the UR teaches students how to analyze ongoing developments in Russia. "The Search for a New Russian National Identity: Russian Perspectives" offers a record and analysis of meetings Parthe and Dr. James Billington, Librarian of Congress, conducted with Russian leaders in 1998 and 1999.
